Distraction Osteogenesis
OsteoMed offers the latest technology in Distraction Ostegenesis products. The LogicTM mandibular distraction system offers a choice of four low profile devices with fixed patented curvilinear trajectories that mimic the natural growth curve of the mandible. The LogicTM Jr. is the only patented curvilinear pediatric distractor in the market. The patented SPECTRUMTM MidFace Distraction System offers a combination of both internal Le Fort I and Le Fort III distraction products. OsteoMed also added the new EnVisionXDTM an external Mandibular distractor targeted towards pediatric patients. These products provide for improved patient comfort and quality of life. Distraction osteogenesis, also called callus distraction, callotasis, osteodistraction, is a surgical process used for the reconstruction of skeletal deformities and for the lengthening of bones. The bone is surgically (with a corticotomy) split in two segments (therefore creating a bone fracture) and the two ends of the bone are gradually moved apart (distraction phase) slowly enough that new bone can form in the gap. When the aimed length has been reached, a consolidation phase follows. The uniqueness and value of distraction osteogenesis lie in its ability to simultaneously expand both the bone volume and the surrounding soft tissues. |
